 Pastor Dan Coy's Bio
Our Assistant Pastor & Youth Pastor-Dan Coy

Q. When did you come to Parkway and what events led you here?
A.
God led our family to Roanoke, Virginia in 2003.  Having previously worked with Pastor Jeff in many different areas, it was no shock when God began this transition for us to become part of the Parkway family.  I resigned as senior pastor of a great group of people in Idaho and came to serve in ministry here.  The unique thing was that two years previously I had been in concert here at this church and felt a leading in this direction, but was not sure when it would happen.

Q. Where have you come from? What are some of your previous ministry experiences?
A.
We moved here from Emmett, ID and began to feel right at home the minute we arrived.  I have served in campus ministries both at private and public campuses, working in administration and volunteer levels.  I have been honored to serve in three pastoral settings and have always been in youth ministry.  I have preached many camps, revivals, and written and shared my music in many different settings.  Worship leading has also been a major joy in my ministry as I have lead God`s people to see Him for who He is through drama and music. I am one of the founders of Youth Challenge, which is a student Leadership conference that is held in Indiana each fall. I have recently been sharing my experiences with new teen leaders who are fulfilling their life`s passion and becoming teen pastors.
God has given me energy and focus to also help many small businesses build up and serve His Kingdom better. I love to work actively in the community and serve its` people.

Q. Tell us about your family.
A.
Janice and I met while I was touring one weekend and I saw her in the crowd and WOW!  As it turned out, she came to the same academy I was attending and we graduated from high school together.  I eventually married my high school sweetheart in June, 1987.  God has given us two awesome children: Ashley, who is almost 14, loves to sing and play basketball.  She is a diligent student and is actively involved in SoulChangers (Student Ministry).  Addison is 9 and loves to climb, jump, and spin off and over anything in sight.  He loves to whittle sticks and play with our dog "Max".  My family is my joy and we love to hang out and eat Mexican food or go to the park for a spontaneous picnic.  We work together in this ministry for Jesus, to help people!

Q. What are your major responsibilities at Parkway? (Tell us what you do).
A.
My responsibilities include: pastor of our student ministry, leading worship, and developing our music program.  I serve as liaison to our community in public relations.

Q. What excites you most about your ongoing ministry here?
A.
My ongoing passion for this ministry is in seeing one more teenager come to know Christ intimately and then helping them connect it to everyday life.  I want to build this next generation, helping with the new ten year vision that God has given Pastor Jeff, to lead with excellence and to replace myself  many times over. I also love to equip and empower the youth leaders of today!

Q. Name one highlight over the past five years. Your favorite Parkway moment.
A.
Seeing God call my students into full-time ministry, that`s the peak!

Q. What are your hobbies/interests? What are some things you especially like to do in your free time?
A.
I love to play basketball and go hiking with my kids. I like sitting on the back porch whittling sticks, hunting and shooting guns and making a fire.  I love to cook and make wild food.   Janice and I like to fix up our house and make it a fun place to be.  I love to play my Taylor guitar and write music to record.

Q. What is your favorite food?
A.
My favorite food is the kind you eat.  OK, if I have to pick one it`s Mexican.

Q. What book(s) have you read recently that you'd like to recommend. Do you have a favorite book?
A.
I read many different kinds of books, but right now I am reading through an easy, encouragering read: "Quiet Strength" by Tony Dungy

Q. What do you anticipate in the near future?
A.
I am excited because the days ahead are bright ones as I see God continuing to open new doors.  I look forward to playing a part in this new vision at Parkway that takes my life`s passion to the next level!  I do everything I love to do and serve with the greatest people in the world!
